on this page
the short version
- We only collect what you give us, like your name, email address and message. If you hire us, we also keep your project and billing details.
- We use it to reply to you, do your project, send invoices and follow the law. We never sell it or use it for ads.
- This website doesn't use cookies or track you. It does load its font from Google.
- You can ask to see, fix or delete your information at any time.
who we are
The Verv Co. ("we" or "us") designs and builds websites. We're responsible for the personal information described on this page, and we handle it in line with Jamaica's Data Protection Act, 2020.
You can reach us at hello@theverv.co or +1 (876) 782-2193.
what we collect
When you contact us
When you fill in our contact form, email us, call or send us a message, we get details like your name, email address, what you need help with and your message. We also get anything else you decide to tell us, such as your phone number or business name.
When you hire us
If you hire us, we also keep your billing details (your name, business name, address and email) and the things you send us for your project, such as text, photos, logos and product details.
To do the work, we may also need access to some of your accounts, such as your web hosting, your web address (also called a domain) or your social media.
When you visit this website
This website doesn't use cookies, and it doesn't track you or show you ads. Three things do happen in the background:
- The company that hosts our website may keep basic records of each visit. These can include your IP address (a number that identifies your internet connection), your browser type, the pages you open and the time. The records help keep the site running and safe.
- The website loads its font from Google Fonts, so your browser shares your IP address with Google when a page loads. Google's privacy policy (opens in a new tab) explains what Google does with it.
- If you switch between light and dark mode, your browser saves that choice on your own device so the site remembers it. It's never sent to us.
On social media
If you message us on Instagram, Meta (the company that owns Instagram) has its own privacy policy, and it applies to those messages too.
how we use it
We use your information to:
- Reply to you and send you a quote
- Plan, build and look after your project
- Send invoices and keep our financial records
- Keep our website, accounts and files safe
- Follow the law
We don't use your information for ads, and we won't send you marketing emails unless you ask for them. We also never let a computer make decisions about you on its own.
why we're allowed to use it
Under the Data Protection Act, we need a lawful reason to use your personal information. Ours are:
- You asked us to, for example by sending us a message.
- We need it to agree on or carry out a contract with you.
- The law requires it, for example for tax records.
- We need it to run and protect our business in ways you would expect.
when your information leaves Jamaica
Some of the services we use, such as Google, store information on computers outside Jamaica, mostly in the United States. We only use well-established companies with strong security and privacy protections, and we only send what we need to reply to you or do your project.
how long we keep it
- Messages that don't turn into a project
- Up to two years after we last spoke. Then we delete them.
- Quotes, contracts and invoices
- As long as tax and accounting laws require.
- Project files and access to your accounts
- While your project or support plan is running. We remove our access to your accounts as soon as we no longer need it.
- Website visit records
- Kept by our web host for a short time, as set out in its own policy.
how we keep it safe
We keep personal information in accounts protected by passwords. Wherever we can, we also turn on two-step login, which asks for a code from a phone as well as the password. Only the people working on your project can see your information.
No system is completely safe. If someone ever breaks into our systems and your information is affected, we'll tell you and the Office of the Information Commissioner, as the law requires.
your rights
Under the Data Protection Act, 2020, you can ask us to:
- Tell you whether we have any personal information about you, and give you a copy
- Fix information that's wrong, or block, delete or destroy it
- Stop using your information in a way that causes you unfair harm or distress
- Stop using your information to send you marketing
- Make sure no decision about you is made by a computer alone
To ask, email hello@theverv.co. We may ask you to prove who you are first. We'll reply within 30 days.
complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first so we can try to put it right.
You can also complain to Jamaica's Office of the Information Commissioner, the official body that oversees the Data Protection Act. Its address is 2nd Floor, The Masonic Building, 45-47 Barbados Avenue, Kingston 5. You can call it on (876) 920-4390 or email info@oic.gov.jm.
children
Our services are for businesses and adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you think a child has sent us their details, let us know and we'll delete them.
changes to this page
If we change how we handle personal information, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If it's a big change, we'll also say so on the website and tell our clients directly.
